This Simple Thing Helped Him Avoid Another Surgery!
This client came to us stuck between constant shoulder pain and the fear of needing another surgery. Mornings were the worst—raising his hand over his head felt “ridiculous,” and nights weren’t any better because he couldn’t sleep. He’d tried Crossover Symmetry bands, a bit of physical therapy, and even went back to old rehab exercises from his previous shoulder surgery.
Something Moved The Needle
What changed was a simple, structured plan—and his consistency. He was “pleasantly surprised” by how much better he felt after committing. He missed only one or two sessions during his treatment. And on days he missed, he doubled up on training the next day.
The plan was deliberately progressive: windmills first, then side-lying work, and later more thoracic mobility. Each step built on the last, and he could feel the difference.
He also learned something important – you get what you put into it. The movements mattered, and the progression mattered. As he put it, “every progression helped.”
Results & Impact
- Morning overhead reach went from painful to pain-free. He can raise his hand above his head without discomfort.
- Sleep returned. The nights that used to be brutal got easier, and he could finally rest.
- He now believes he’ll avoid surgery. He had been heading that way, but no longer feels stuck.
- Range of motion improved in both shoulders—even the previously operated side benefited from the work.
- He’s ready to start lifting again and expects golf to feel easier this summer.
- Thoracic mobility exercises helped increase motion and overall comfort.
In His Words
“I was pleasantly surprised. It’s quite a bit better.”
“In the morning, I put my hand right above my head, and it doesn’t bother me. It used to be ridiculous.”
“I think I’m gonna be able to avoid surgery because I was heading that way… now I can sleep, and I’m ready to start pushing it.”
“I’m glad I did it… the movements really do make a huge difference.”
What Made the Difference
The treatment plan we created for him made a lot of difference. It was not complicated; rather, it was a clear, progressive plan that he diligently and consistently followed.
- Begin with movements such as windmills to establish a foundation.
- The progress to side-lying variations to challenge the shoulder without aggravating it.
- Layer in thoracic work to support better shoulder mechanics.
In The End
This client’s story is an encouragement to anyone dealing with shoulder pain. In just a few weeks, he went from having “ridiculous” shoulder pain every morning and sleeplessness at night to becoming pain-free. His overhead reach and better range of motion on both shoulders are proof of the results he’s achieved following the plan we tailored to him.
The windmills, side-lying work, and thoracic mobility helped achieve this result. As he said, he’s sleeping and waking up pain-free again, and is easing back into lifting, and looking forward to golf.
