Getting Rid Of Shoulder Pain Virtually Wasn’t As Hard As He Thought

This client spent months stuck in a cycle of pain and frustration. He loved lifting, playing sports, and golfing—but even simple things like tossing trash behind him or washing his back in the shower lit up his shoulder. He felt a sharp, pinching sensation across the top of his shoulder (classic shoulder impingement symptoms), and he couldn’t reach overhead or behind his back without pain.

Where He Started

Day to day, he felt shoulder pain doing normal things. Any time he tried to return to the activities he enjoyed, the first set or first swing would flare it right back up. He tried resting, felt a little better, then flared again. He tried to rehab it himself with exercises for shoulder pain he found online, but he went nowhere—just spinning his wheels.

Even imaging looked “fine,” which made it more confusing. He went to a traditional PT clinic, but it felt like the same generic rotator cuff exercises he’d already tried.

Additionally, he’d had a steroid injection in the past that helped for a few months, but when the pain returned, it came back fast and hard. He was frustrated and ready for real shoulder pain treatment that actually worked.

What Finally Changed

When he started this program, he finally got an explanation that made sense. He learned what “impingement” meant for him—it felt like he was running out of space in the shoulder joint, especially with overhead or across-the-body movements.

Instead of more of the same, the plan rebuilt his foundation

  • Reintroducing thoracic spine mobility so his upper back could rotate and share the load.
  • Teaching his scapula to move again (at first, he could literally feel it grinding).
  • Progressively adding load only when each piece was ready.

He also reset his expectations when he realized recovery wouldn’t be overnight and that a serious shoulder injury needs time and steady work. When he got early flare-ups (even from simple nerve glides), he didn’t panic. He treated each flare as information and that helped his providers adjust the plan with precision.

The app made it easier to stick with everything. He easily checked in, recorded videos, and stayed in close communication so his team could catch mistakes and keep him moving forward.

Results

  • Pain dropped to essentially zero or a one out of ten most days.
  • He can reach behind his back and overhead without pain.
  • Tossing something behind him—once a big trigger—is now easy.
  • He’s putting load back on the shoulder and returning to lifting and sports.
  • Daily life is normal again: he can hold things, play on the floor with his kids, and wash his back in the shower.

What He’d Tell Someone Like Him

“Stick with the program, even when it’s frustrating. Be specific about flare-ups—what you were doing, where it hurt, and what set it off—so your provider can help you faster. It’s okay to be upset; just keep communicating. Strength will come back once pain and movement return.” For him, that’s exactly what happened and today he’s moving freely, feeling confident, and getting his life back.
