Tim Got His Sleep Back After Being Told His Shoulder May Need Replacement
Tim had reached the point where his shoulder was running his day. He couldn’t sleep on his right side for most of the night. Washing his hair in the shower hurt. Even reaching behind to pull his belt through the loops was painful.
The News Wasn’t Encouraging
When he finally had it checked, the news wasn’t encouraging. His doctor told him he had severe arthritis in his shoulder, that shots wouldn’t help much, and that within five or six years a shoulder replacement was the likely next step. That was the one thing Tim wanted to avoid. He wanted his mobility back, not a countdown to surgery.
He had already done some resistance band work with his weight trainer. It wasn’t as targeted as he needed. In his words, the trainer was working from limited knowledge of which exercises actually help the shoulder.
His first thought was to go back to physical therapy. He’d had both knees replaced and was very happy with the PT he did then. But when he read more about physical therapy for shoulder pain, it sounded like it was mostly about rebuilding strength after surgery. Then he found Joey’s YouTube videos, and something clicked.
What Changed And Why Did It Work?
What drew Tim in was the education. He hadn’t realized how complex the shoulder joint was until the videos showed him how the shoulder moves and rotates, and how the scapula, the traps, and the neck all work together. He liked that the program looked at nerve involvement and neck work, things that often get missed when everyone focuses only on the spot that hurts.
The videos gave him some confidence, but the real proof came from the weekly progress. The app kept him accountable as he logged in every day, did his exercises, and recorded what he did and how many. Then came the movement assessments. His wife recorded the videos, and when they compared the first one with the second and third, the difference was obvious. “Wow” was how he described it – even his wife could see the change.
Results
- Confidence in sleeping through the night went from about 10–20% to 100%
- No pain when reaching overhead
- Washing his hair and showering are now pain-free
- Putting on a shirt and sliding his arms into the sleeves is no longer difficult
- Reaching behind to thread his belt is far less painful
- Mobility is back, with reaching behind his back the only movement still a little limited
- Ready to start building strength in the shoulder
What Changed And Why It Worked?
Tim didn’t get a generic list of band exercises. Instead, he got a plan built around how the whole shoulder works, including the neck and nerves. He also had structure: daily exercises, regular check-ins, and great communication along the way.
The videos made a big difference. Watching his own movement improve gave him proof that the plan was working, and it kept him going. He also stayed smart about it and held back on overhead weight training so he wouldn’t make things worse. Now that his range of motion is back, he’s ready to start building strength.
Getting real shoulder pain relief meant more than feeling better. It meant he could rest again. Going from barely trusting his shoulder at night to sleeping without any worry was one of his biggest wins.
What He’d Tell Someone With the Same Shoulder Issues
If you’re dealing with shoulder arthritis pain at night and aren’t sure whether to start, Tim’s answer is simple. He says it’s a great program; he’s been very impressed with what he’s accomplished, and he’s very happy with the results.
