From Chronic Shoulder Pain To Getting Pain Free
This client was stuck with chronic shoulder pain that was not getting better. She just wanted to cook dinner, fold the laundry, and play with her grandkids without her shoulder pain getting in the way. But for a long time, even those simple things felt out of reach.
Before starting with Comeback Performance, she could barely get through a day without pain. Reaching straight out, to the side, or overhead hurt. Chopping vegetables hurt. Getting clothes in and out of the washer and dryer hurt, and even sorting the laundry was a struggle. Holding her arm up on the steering wheel while driving made everything feel “crunched.” She started planning every movement around her sore shoulder to avoid moving it at all.
The Day That Broke Her
Whatever little movement she still had stopped working. She had intense pain running through her neck and shoulder, along with a bad headache. Lying there, she knew something had to change. “I can’t live like this,” she said. She had already tried some gentle movements on her own, but nothing was targeted. Topical creams helped for a short while, but they did nothing for the muscles and joints underneath.
Starting a new program came with real fears. She worried about getting reinjured and making things a lot worse. She also worried that she would put in all the time and effort and still not see results. But living with pain every day was worse than the risk. All she wanted was to get through a normal day.
The Turning Point
The first week or so felt overwhelming. Her muscles were very tight, and her body was in protective mode. The early weeks were mostly about helping things loosen up so she could do more. Learning the app took some getting used to, too. “I’m at an age where- what do you mean I have to download another app?” she laughed. After about a week, it clicked, and she wondered why she had made it so hard. The demo videos became a favorite because she could always go back and remind herself how each exercise was done.
Progress came in small pieces at first. Then, around the halfway point, it hit her. She was doing things she couldn’t do just two weeks earlier.
Results
- Chops vegetables and makes dinner without even thinking about it
- Can reach up and grab something from the top closet rod (her tall husband’s side)
- Back in her gym classes, including Pilates, with more confidence
- Enjoying the social side of her classes again
- Looking forward to returning to her Sunday morning yoga class
What Changed And Why It Worked?
For her, communication made the biggest difference. If an exercise wasn’t working for her, she could send a message and her coach would adjust or replace it right away. If she was too tired, or it was a hard travel day, the plan adjusted with her. And sometimes her coach would tell her to stick with an exercise she didn’t love, because it still had a job to do.
Unlike traditional physical therapy for shoulder pain in a clinic, she didn’t have to wait a week or two for the next appointment to get answers. Support was always close by.
What She’d Tell Someone Who’s Just Getting Started
For anyone whose shoulder feels locked up, her advice is simple: if you’ve found this program, you’ve already taken a good step. Now take one more and do it. It takes work and commitment, but you’ll have plenty of support, even more than she had going into a clinic.
When she first heard about the program, she was desperate. What she found was a team that was “so wonderful” and truly wanted her to get better. Today, she’s back to cooking, reaching, and moving through her day the way she always wanted to.
