Shoulder Arthritis Couldn’t Stop This Golfer From Getting His Shoulder Back
For a whole year, his shoulder ran the show. Golf and the gym weren’t just hobbies for him. They kept him strong in body and mind, and they had become part of who he was. Then a nagging shoulder injury took both away.
He did what most people would do. He saw a doctor, got MRIs, and was told it was arthritis and that there wasn’t much anyone could do. Being told you have shoulder arthritis in your 30s, with nothing offered beyond “that’s just how it is,” didn’t help him at all. He got a second opinion and heard the same thing.
Treatments That Worked For A While
He was sent to physical therapy for shoulder pain, and it seemed to work for a while. Thinking he was better, he went back to swinging clubs and lifting. The pain returned. Some days it was so bad he couldn’t wash his hair or reach up for a tall glass in the cabinet.
He tried everything else he could think of: vitamins, ibuprofen, ice baths, heat therapy. A cortisone injection was ruled out because the doctor said he was too young, and he didn’t want one at 30 anyway. He felt stuck. While searching online for exercises, he found Comeback Performance and decided to give it one more shot.
The Turning Point
His biggest worry going in was that this would be the same physical therapy he’d already had, with the same exercises at the same pace.
What changed his mind was the goal. His regular PT seemed focused on getting him well enough to pick up a glass. The Comeback team wanted him playing golf and back in the gym. He wanted to push his shoulder to its limits, not just get by.
The app made it easy to stay consistent. If he wasn’t sure he was doing an exercise right, he could rewatch the videos. On the other hand, if something hurt, he could message the team at any time and ask for a change. Tapping “complete” after each exercise gave his days structure, so he wasn’t trying to remember everything in his head.
After a couple of weeks, a few exercises he’d never have thought of started to make a difference. He could feel parts of his back and shoulder getting stronger. First he got pain relief, and then he got strength.
Results
- Push-ups, which used to be painful, are now pain-free
- Back to full pull-ups after starting slow a few weeks earlier
- Doing rows and curls again
- No pain during workouts or the next day
- Can wash his hair without pain
- Feels stronger and more confident in his shoulder
What Changed And Why It Worked?
Looking back over the past year, he puts it down to progression. Instead of doing one exercise every day forever, his program started slow and got a little harder over time. When an exercise was going well, the team would tweak it to push his shoulder, back, or neck a bit further.
The first couple of days were a struggle, but he’d adjust and keep chipping away. Nothing magic, just steady work that built real shoulder pain relief into lasting strength. His story shows that having shoulder arthritis in your 30s doesn’t have to mean you have to give up the things you love.
What He’d Tell Someone in the Same Situation
His advice is honest. At first, you’re going to be in pain, and you might feel a little hopeless. Stay dedicated to the process, be patient, and take the small victories as they come with each exercise.
“You’ve got to be patient and dedicated, and it’ll work.”
